Turkey’s military and its allies have spent billions of dollars upgrading its transport and communications networks since the coup attempt in late July, while Ankara has also been ramping up security in the capital.
The country’s largest airport, Ataturk International Airport, is currently undergoing extensive security upgrades, including a reinforced perimeter and enhanced screening, as well as an enhanced perimeter at the airport terminal.
It has also launched an ambitious program to improve its rail network, as a key component of Turkey’s effort to diversify its economy.
The military also plans to build more than 50,000 kilometers of railway line through the region.
